Editorial Process

Journal of Decision Support Systems and Multi-Criteria Decision Making follows a structured editorial process to ensure that every manuscript is evaluated fairly, consistently, and according to appropriate academic, ethical, and scientific standards. The process covers manuscript submission, initial screening, editorial assignment, reviewer selection, peer review, revision, editorial decision, final preparation, proofreading, and online publication.

The Editorial Office coordinates the manuscript throughout the evaluation process, while Editors and Reviewers independently assess the scientific and technical quality of the work. Editorial decisions are based on the manuscript's quality, relevance, originality, methodological soundness, reviewer evaluations, ethical compliance, and contribution to the field.

Editorial Workflow

The manuscript moves through the following editorial stages. At designated decision points, manuscripts that do not satisfy the required standards may be declined and will not proceed to the subsequent stage.

1. Submission
2. Screening

3. Editorial Assignment
4. Reviewer Selection
5. Peer Review
6. Revision
7. Editorial Decision

10. Online Publication

Process Flow: Submission → Initial Screening → Accepted: Editorial Assignment → Reviewer Selection → Peer Review → Revision → Editorial Decision → Accepted: Final Editorial Preparation → Final Proofreading → Online Publication. Declined manuscripts exit the process at the applicable decision point.

1. Manuscript Submission

Authors submit manuscripts through the journal's online submission system. The submission must comply with the Author Guidelines, manuscript template, ethical requirements, authorship policies, and required declarations. Authors are responsible for ensuring that all submitted information and manuscript content are accurate and complete.

2. Initial Manuscript Screening

The Editorial Office conducts an initial screening to determine whether the manuscript meets the journal's basic requirements. The screening may include journal scope, manuscript completeness, formatting, language, references, authorship information, ethical declarations, plagiarism concerns, and compliance with the journal template.

Decision Point

Accepted: The manuscript proceeds to Editorial Assignment.
Decline: Manuscripts that do not meet the fundamental requirements, are outside the journal's scope, or are unsuitable for further consideration are declined at this stage.

3. Editorial Assignment

A manuscript that passes the initial screening is assigned to an appropriate Editor based on the research topic, subject area, and methodological approach. The assigned Editor coordinates the evaluation process and ensures that the manuscript is handled objectively, confidentially, and consistently with the journal's editorial policies.

4. Reviewer Selection

The Editor selects qualified reviewers with expertise relevant to the manuscript. Reviewer selection considers academic expertise, research experience, methodological competence, availability, and potential conflicts of interest. Reviewers should be sufficiently independent from the authors to provide an objective assessment.

5. Peer Review

Reviewers evaluate the manuscript according to the journal's review criteria. The assessment may cover originality, relevance, research objectives, methodological soundness, scientific rigor, accuracy of analysis, quality of results and discussion, references, clarity of presentation, ethical considerations, and contribution to the field.

6. Revision

When revisions are requested, authors must address the reviewers' and Editor's comments carefully and systematically. A revised manuscript should clearly incorporate the necessary changes and be accompanied by a response explaining how the substantive comments have been addressed.

Where necessary, the revised manuscript may be returned to the original reviewers for further assessment. Additional revision may be requested when important issues remain unresolved.

7. Editorial Decision

The Editor makes the editorial decision after considering the reviewers' recommendations, manuscript quality, revisions, author responses, and the journal's standards. The decision reflects the overall scientific and editorial assessment of the manuscript.

Decision Point

Accepted: The manuscript proceeds to Final Editorial Preparation.
Decline: The manuscript is declined and does not proceed to the production and publication stages.

8. Final Editorial Preparation

Manuscripts approved for publication proceed to final editorial and technical preparation. This stage may include language editing, formatting, reference checking, metadata verification, table and figure checking, author information verification, and other technical corrections required before publication.

9. Final Proofreading

Authors may be asked to verify the final proof of the manuscript. The verification should focus on author names, affiliations, title, abstract, tables, figures, equations, references, metadata, and other publication details. Corrections at this stage should be limited to necessary errors and should not substantially change the approved manuscript.

10. Online Publication

After completion of the editorial and production procedures, the article is prepared for online publication. Articles may be published online first before being assigned to the appropriate volume and issue according to the journal's publication schedule.

Editorial Principle: The editorial process is conducted fairly, confidentially, transparently, and independently. Editorial decisions are based on the scientific and scholarly quality of the manuscript and are not influenced by irrelevant personal, institutional, geographical, or other non-academic considerations.
